Open Settings > Cloud and local to see everything in one place: where your memories are stored, which AI processes your chats and notes, and how your other AI apps reach your memories.

Choose where your memories are stored

  1. Click the Settings gear at the bottom of the left rail.
  2. Under You, click Cloud and local.
  3. Under Where your memories are stored, choose one:
    • Cloud (recommended): your memories sync to Locul’s cloud, so your brain is reachable from your other computers and from AI on the web.
    • Local-only: nothing leaves this machine. Your brain is served only by Locul on this device or your local network, and web AI apps can’t reach it.

Below that you see Sync status, Last synced, and how many memories are on this device and in the cloud. Click Sync now to sync straight away.

The Cloud and local page in Settings, with where your memories are stored and the sync status## See where your bots and memories are processed

Under Where your bots and memories are processed:

  • Your bots use by default shows the AI your chats go to. Click Change to pick another.
  • Memories are built on shows where your notes go while memories are made: A cloud engine (outside your network), This computer (your notes stay here), or a server on your network.

To keep chats on this computer or your firm’s network, choose Your own server on the AI model page.

How other AI apps reach your memories

  • Apps on this computer. Claude Code, Codex and Claude Desktop connect to Locul directly on this computer. This works in both Cloud and Local-only. Click Connect to set them up.
  • AI on the web. ChatGPT, Grok and Claude on the web reach your memories through Locul’s cloud. They can’t reach a Local-only brain.
