# How do I use an EU or Swiss AI provider?

Source: https://help.locul.ai/articles/use-an-eu-or-in-country-ai-provider

In **Settings** > **AI model**, choose **Open models** and pick a provider listed under **In your region**. Your chats then go to that provider in Europe or Switzerland, which does not train on your data.

## Providers you can choose

- **In your region:** Scaleway (Paris), Mistral AI (Paris), Opper EU (Stockholm), OVHcloud (France), IONOS (Berlin) and Infomaniak (Switzerland).
- **Fast open models (US):** Groq, Together AI and Fireworks AI. Quick and low cost, but your data leaves your region.
- **No fixed region:** Nebius Token Factory. The provider picks the data centre for each request.

Each row shows where the provider is, whether it trains on your data, and how long it keeps it. Other regions, such as the UK, are not available yet. To keep everything inside your own network, use [your own server](/articles/run-locul-with-a-local-model) instead.

## Set it up

1. Click the **Settings** gear at the bottom of the left rail.
2. Under **Bots**, click **AI model**.
3. Under **Default for all bots**, choose **Open models**.
4. Click a provider under **In your region**.
5. Under **Model**, pick a model. Each shows where it was made.
6. Under **Access key**, click **Get a key** to create one with the provider. **Setup guide** walks you through it.
7. Paste the key and click **Save and test**.

When the check says **Ready**, chats and scheduled tasks use this provider. Scheduled tasks test the connection again before each run.

Your key stays on this computer. Locul never shows it again or sends it anywhere except that provider. To check the provider's terms, click **Read their data processing agreement**.

## Good to know

- Until you add a key, your bots keep using Claude.
- Infomaniak also asks for a product ID. Click **Find it** next to the field.
- Prices per model are shown in the list and are charged by the provider. See [Locul pricing](https://locul.ai/pricing/) for Locul's own plans.
- Set a **Backup model** to answer when your main provider can't.

## Troubleshooting

**A provider is greyed out.** It says **Outside the regions your admin allows** or **Not allowed by your admin**. Your firm controls this list.

**The check says Not ready.** Check the key was copied in full, then click **Replace** and save it again.
